Frequently asked

Questions, answered.

  • Why a temporary tattoo?
Born from an idea on a pool deck, it needed to be waterproof, durable, and clear. It needed to last longer than a sticker, but not as irritating as repeated permanent marker used directly on the skin. In the case of a multi-day meet, information needed to be easily removable to display the following day's races. To keep the athlete's information accurate, we are in the process of developing a solution (patent pending) that makes the information easily removeable from skin. This allows young athletes to have the information when they need it at the meet and not need to wear remnants of it to school the next day.
  • What's wrong with my usual permanent marker routine?
Sure, athletes have done it for years, but that doesn't mean it's good for the skin. While it's generally non-toxic for occasional use, studies show that athletes can experience chemical reactions and skin irritation when permanent marker is used repeatedly — especially in the same spot on the skin. And permanent marker in the hands of a new age-group swimmer or a coach in a hurry? It doesn't end well, resulting in illegible scrawl that's hard for everyone to decipher when trying to get a swimmer where they need to be and when.
  • Isn't this just more time and money?
Sports can be expensive — we totally get it, because we've been there. That's why we intentionally priced our product well compared to stickers or other items sold at meets. We've also experienced the frustration of needing a tool that didn't exist yet, so we designed this one as we'd want to use it. Giving a gift to your future self in the form of planning ahead isn't just a way to make grownups' lives easier on meet day — it's modeling the lesson for young athletes of being prepared and present, so they can focus on what their coach has spent time and energy teaching them. EHLStat is one less thing to worry about on meet day, when every second counts.
  • Why the multiple ink colors?
Because swim meets should be fun and inclusive. Athletes come in all skin tones, and the tools they rely on should recognize and uplift that too. Anyone in swimming knows the shameful history that access to pools has been limited by racism and systems of oppression. After more than two decades on pool decks, our founder has seen diversity in swimming grow — and wanted to build an inclusive product with the knowledge and lived experience that one color doesn't work for everyone.
